Subject: [AL-AWDA-News] Mr. Foxman, you made your bedwith Mr. Robertson....so now sleep in it...
To Mr. Abraham Foxman,
Director of Anti Defamation League

Ref: Pat Robertson’s statement on Sharon

Dear Mr. Foxman,
I was very amused this morning when I saw you angry and fuming on national television regarding the statement by televangelist Pat Robertson on the illness of the war criminal Ariel Sharon.  You accused Mr. Robertson of racism and intolerance because of his statements on his television show Club 700.  Apparently Mr. Robertson said that the illness of Mr. Sharon was caused by “God” due to the so called
“ disengagement from Gaza” and the “ withdrawal of Israeli troops from Gaza.”  The statement is false as the Israeli troops are still surrounding Gaza and the Palestinians in Gaza are still suffering at the hands of the Israeli army.  On the other hand, Mr. Robertson believes that God struck the war criminal Sharon because of his actions and since we live in a free country that protects freedom of speech and freedom of religion we have to respect Mr. Robertson’s views and live with them.
It is really disturbing to me that you are trying to suppress the freedom of speech and the freedom of belief to one of our leading religious figures despite his aggressive work for the state of Israel and its political agenda.  This is even more disturbing since Mr. Robertson and his group of Christian evangelists are responsible for the collection and distribution of hundreds of millions of dollars in donations to the Sharon government to build more settlements on land stolen from the Palestinian Arabs. I am sure that a learned person like you who follows the news daily to monitor anti Semitism knows that the Sharon government just agreed to grant Pat Robertson’s group land in the upper Galilee to build a Christian theme park.  The project is to be built on land stolen from Palestinian Arabs after the closing of Beitlehm, the City of Peace, the city of the birth of Jesus by the wall Israel is building in Palestine. The 400 mile long, 20 ft high wall that is being funded by the naïve American taxpayers and approved by an administration that owes its soul to Pat Robertson and his Christian evangelist political machine.
          Mr. Foxman,
Pat Robertson is an avid supporter of the state of Israel and its policies and his record shows it and all you have to do is listen to his infamous 700 Club. He was instrumental in the formation of an extremely pro Israeli policy in Washington through pressure on the Congress and the president of the United States.  He promotes pro Israeli policies every day because he believes that the Jews should be congregated in Palestine for the Messiah to come back so Jews will be converted or killed.  The Israeli governments knew this all along and did not mind taking his money or touring his groups through Palestine to visit the holy sites.  The Israeli government and you Mr. Foxman made your bed with this man and his group of wacko televangelistsand it is time now to sleep with him in it.  You fed this mad cow and nurtured it for decades to suit your political agenda, so now drink its milk and be merry.  Merry Christmas* Mr. Foxman.

* Today is the Orthodox Christmas to millions of Christians who cannot reach Beitlehm or Jerusalem because of the wall supported by you and Mr. Robertson.

A Prescription for Mideast Peace: Get Tough With Israel

By Brigadier General James J. David rt.

A just solution to the Arab-Israeli conflict can only be achieved if U.S. policy is based upon American moral principles and a strict adherence to international law, which run counter to the continued Israeli occupation of Arab territory and the denial of basic rights and freedoms to Palestinians under Israeli military rule.

No peace initiative will ever succeed if it denies the Palestinians the liberty to which all people are entitled. Unfortunately, the U.S. has always been silent in the face of Israel's continuing occupation, obediently providing military, political and financial support which only strengthens Israel's belligerent posture towards its neighbors.

The confiscation of Arab land in order to build more Jewish settlements, the expulsion of Palestinians, their arrest and imprisonment, the systematic torture in the prisons, the assassination of political leaders, the total absence of due process, the demolition of homes, the uprooting of thousands of olive trees, the diversion to Israel of scarce water resources and the often indiscrimianst killing of men, women, and especially children are violations of international law and moral standards. Americans have a special responsibility to put a stop to these abuses because these abuses are unjust and because they are being carried out with our resources and with the military and political support of our government.

The United States has a responsibility to intervene in order to prevent hostitilities from occuring anywhere around the world or whenever human rights are being violated. But, it must do what is right based upon moral principles and not upon influences from special interest groups, political action committees or influential lobbyists. No rational dialogue is possible when those who dare to speak out are subjected to such intimidation that they fear for their political or professional lives.

A major obstacle to the establishment of such an American policy is the political influence wielded by the Israeli lobby. Supplementing the lobby's efficient pressure, pro-Israeli political action committees give more money to the campaigns of senators, congressmen and presidential candidates than any other single-issue lobby. Aggregate contributions by pro-Israeli individuals are even greater.

U.S. policy in the Middle East has been a failure. Its lopsided support of Israel is the main reason. It is not good for Israel to live beyond its means and be immune from criticism because of American protection. This unquestionable protection of Israel and our refusal to condemn this Jewish State no matter what violations of international law and human rights it commits only breeds terrorism. We Americans now see this terrorism on our own soil.
